From an early age DJ Bacon was into music, at school he was in various bands/groups and spent most of his time learning instruments in the music hall instead of going to lessons, but it wasn’t until 1995 when he heard the classic Rosie Gains tune ‘Closer Than Close’ which hallmarked the beginning of his journey into a whole new world of underground dance music.

Inspired by the likes of TuffJam, MK, Armand Van Helden & Grant Nelson etc… Bacon began collecting tunes on vinyl (at the time this was the only format available).

“I never had any inspirations to be a dj, I just wanted to listen to music I liked, even when I started raving in ’97 and began to understand what mixing was all about, I had no interest in making music my life”

In 1999 DJ Bacon went to Bournemouth University to study ‘International Marketing Management with German and French’ and quickly built up a reputation on campus for throwing the biggest and best house parties.

“One legendary night ‘Twice as Nice’ did a large event at the University Nightclub and I got the address of a free after-party read out on the mic. At 4am over 800 people showed up to a student house that I had kitted out with strobes, smoke machines and a kicking sound system where we partied till 3pm the next day”

But it wasn’t until 2000 that Bacon’s dj career started to take off, a local drum and bass promoter needed a garage resident for room two. Word soon spread about that a new dj was in town and before he knew it Bacon was playing everywhere Bournemouth had to offer, having the added advantage of having tunes from London, some djs found it hard to compete. He made the decision to leave University and put all his energy into djing full time. For the next 3 years Bacon continued living in Bournemouth working full time as a DJ.

“Those three years are just a blur, partying that hard tends to have that effect”

2003: Work started drying up in Bournemouth due to a cultural change in the music, garage got very dark and mc based and the main bulk of night clubs jumped on the RnB bandwagon. Bacon decided he had reached as far as he could get on the south coast and made the move back to London with a view to crack the highly competitive London club circuit.

2004: Bacon was finally launched on the London circuit at Club Liberty courtesy of Martin ‘Liberty’ Larner (known for giving up’n’coming djs breaks). During this legendary set Bacon broke the rewind record and afterwards when Matt Jam Lamont (the pioneer of UK Garage) made a gesture towards his record box, Bacon knew that this was just the beginning of things to come.

2005: Saw Bacon as one of the most booked up’n’coming UK G djs on the London circuit averaging 20-25 gigs a month. By offering the use of his flyering service ‘Pack of Bacon’ he soon built up a reputation for being a dedicated hard worker. Come rain or shine, after his gigs Bacon could be found outside London venues at 6am every weekend doing his small part in filling club nights for the coming weeks.

2006: Bacon stepped up the ‘Pack of Bacon’ by teaming up with promotion outfit Mix It Up UK and a record shop Manic Vinyl to bring ‘Maxx Paxx’ to the streets of London. As well as dabbling in tune distribution Bacon set up ‘Bacons Box’, a free tune promotion service ensuring the top djs in clubs and on radio get the latest firing tracks.

2007: With seven years of club experience under his belt Bacon is now taking the next logical step……production. He is currently in the studio with Scott Tonic and Mr Rumble and have releases scheduled to drop for the summer.

2008: Bacon wins the lottery and sods off the music to make porn films.

2009: Bacon gets run over by a milk float.
