BLUE HIGHWAYS was formed in1994 with NJ native musicians Chris Fay (rhythm guitar, vocals), Bob Scrabis (guitar, vocals), Don Stoll (drums), Ken Ramos (bass, vocals), and Kevin Buck (lead guitar). Blue Highway’s music has been described as "Rock-n-Roll that jams with an 'Alt-Country' flavor"
Since their debut where Fay and Scrabis performed intimate acoustic shows at Jersey Shore clubs, the band has evolved into one of the top rock bands around. In the winter of 2002, pedal steel guitar legend Buddy Cage, of New Riders of the Purple Sage, who also performed on Bob Dylan’s “Blood On The Tracks”, began performing and collaborating with the band.
Blue Highways released their debut album, "Late, Lit and Loaded" in the spring of 2002. Recorded at Sheffield Studios and Offstage Recording Studios, "Late, Lit and Loaded" has received healthy radio play and recently earned a spot on NJ Radio 90.5 The Night's Top 90 Albums of 2002, hitting the charts at No. 33. "Late, Lit and Reloaded", which contained two new tracks and the bulk of LL&L, was released in the spring of 2004.
Their follow up album, "Never Again.Until Next Time", just released in November 2005, promises to set the band at a new level creatively and musically. This album convinces the listener yet again, they are here to stay. 2005 concluded with Blue Highways winning Best Roots Rock Band in the 2005 Asbury Park Music Awards.
The Jersey coast is the band's primary headquarters and a growing music scene has contributed to the band developing a larger following. The band continues to see their venues, touring, and fan base expand. They have performed on east coast television programs, are featured in publications and are invited to appear on live radio music programs often. Blue Highways have opened for national acts such as The Jazz Mandolin Project w/Jon Fishman of PHISH, moe, The Black Crowes, Galactic, Sam Bush, Kenny Wayne Shephard, Oteil Burbridge, and Levon Helm, to name a few.
"Blue Highways is one of the more important bands to come out of the Jersey scene in the last decade" - RICHARD SKELLY News Correspondent, WRSUfm New Brunswick 88.7 Low Budget Blues Program Host.
