(thanks to Rick/smAsh for letting us ex-Blatz's join him in running this myspace page!)

BLATZ was a punk band that was a part of the east bay, Cali scene in the late 80s early 90s. they mostly played shows at

924 Gilman.

Blatz started as a one-off for a Gilman Street holiday show. The 2 main people at the time, Eggplant (guitars) and Joey (drums), started the band for real the following summer in 1989. Since both of them were constants at gilman street, they convinced Gilman soundman Marshall Stax (bass) to join. The 3 of them were practicing one night in the Gilman office and when Jesse (vocals) came in and was asked to sing. After they did a few shows, it was decided they wanted a woman in the band. Through a miscommunication they asked 2 different women, Anna Joy and Annie, to join as vocalists.

this is taken from the inside cover of bitches n' brew:

"Blatz is Punk rock!! Nobody knew what the fuck would happen next. When we'd play, we were to flaky to plan stuff out. Our chaos wasn't a presentation, it was an accident. Some people said we were good. Fuck them! The highst form for praise we ever got was from this guy who drank this poison stuff in preperation for a BLATZ party so he could puke on us."

Here's Marshall's Myspace Page .

A couple more My Space pages with Blatz music are here,

Here's the Filth My Space page!

Special thanks to Smash, Kevin, Bonedog, Spades, & all the folks (including the Norwegian who did the late lamented Cockroach Cafe site) who've kept the Blatz infection festering over the years!
