Black Pearl (???) - Getting ready to debut“Black Pearl.” Think Lee Hyolee. Think Ock JuHyun. Think SG Wannabe and Seeya and M2M. The production company behind all these singers, Mnet Media is debuting a 4 member female R&B group.



The name “Black Pearl” is well-known due to the movie series “Pirates of the Carribean.” Black Pearl was originally supposed to be the name of the three member group Seeya but was discarded because reports showed it didn’t match their image.



As news of Black Pearl was released, Netizens remarked that “this is the year of girl groups,” and “everyone’s in girl groups.” Amid this reaction, girl groups have been hoping that they are recognized and are successful for their efforts and singing skills rather than their looks.



Black Pearl members’ ages range from 17-25. Many songwriters, including Jo YoungSoo, Kim DoHoon, Min Myungki, and Han SungHo came together to record and produce 14 songs. The current plan is to release one song every three weeks.



Jo YoungSoo’s song “?? ? ??? [I can’t help loving you]” features Chinese instruments and theme and will be released on the 18th.



Black Pearl will be facing stiff competition from SM Entertainment’s “???? [Time of Girls?]” JYP Entertainment’s Wondergirls, DSP Entertainment’s Kara (DSP was known for producing former groups Sechs Kies and FinKL), and YG Entertainment’s upcoming group.
