Birgit Õigemeel

Birgit Õigemeel (born September 24, 1988) is an Estonian pop/rock artist, who rose to fame as the winner of the 1st season of Estonian Pop Idol contest in 2007.
Also in 2007, at the Italian culture festival "L'Olivo d'Oro" (Golden Olive) Birgit was the 1st non-Italian to receive the "golden olive branch" award.
Birgit gave out her 1st single on November 12, 2007. The single was titled "Kas tead, mida tähendab…". The single reached 2nd place in Radio 2 Year's Hit Awards. Her 2nd single "365 Days" was released in January 2008. With this song Birgit competed in Estonian Eurovision Song Contest national final – Eurolaul and reached 3rd. On January 25, 2008 her self-titled debut album was released by MTH Publishing. Her album reached the top of Estonian album charts for many weeks. In Autumn 2008 Birgit took part of another TV3 reality show "Laulud tähtedega" (Songs with the Stars). Birgit and her 'star-singer', politician Margus Tahkna, were the runner-up's.
She released her 2nd album "Ilus Aeg" in Winter 2008 singing Christmas songs with Uku Suviste and ETV Children's Choir.
Since that, Birgit has given Christmas concerts in every year with other talented Estonian musicians.
Her 3rd studio album "Teineteisel Pool" released in 2009 and the 1st single "Moonduja" reached 3rd place in Radio 2 Year's Hit Awards.
At the same year, Birgit Õigemeel won The Estonian Music Award in the category "Female Artist of the Year 2010"
Birgit also took 2nd place in the Baltic Song Contest 2010 (Sweden) with her song "365 Days"
Birgit had her 1st musical role as "Maria von Trapp" in The Sound of Music last season.
She took part of national tv-show "Laulupealinn", where she represented her hometown Kohila in autumn 2011.
At the moment Birgit and violin-group Violina are semi-finalists of Estonian Eurovision contest 2012
