PUBLISHED:  Feb 08, 2011
DESCRIPTION:
To provide insight, please read my comments prior to listening to the music.
The year was 1932 and a set of recordings was made that set the jazz world on fire. These musical gems were considered by many to be fine examples of collective improvisation that should be in every jazz lover's library. Each of these tracks gave intense pleasure to worldwide audiences that, as a friend of mine would say, resulted in an audio orgasm. It all started when impressario Irving Mills wanted to record a new young singer, named Billy Banks and he asked Eddie Condon to pick up a supporting group. Four sessions were recorded and the jazz was so exciting that Banks was left off the last session. The initial recording was purely instrumental and a masterpiece, viz; Bugle Call Rag and I see that it was previously posted on Utube. These young black and white musicians all had individual talent and they combined in a common language to generate some hard hitting jazz. Today, they are all legends !!
The personnel on these tracks is as follows :

April18th, 1932 & May 23rd, 1932 -- New York City
Henry "Red" Allen -- (tp)
Pee Wee Russell -- (cl, ts)
Joe Sullivan -- (p)
Eddie Condon -- (bjo)
Jack Bland -- (g)
Al Morgan -- (b) * *
Zutty Singleton -- (dms)

* * On "Oh ! Peter" I give credit to Morgan, as per my records, however, to me it sounds more like Pops Foster. I wonder if the two dates were mixed ?

July 26th, 1932 -- New York City
Same as the above personnel with the following exceptions:
Jimmy Lord -- (cl)
Pee Wee Russell -- (ts)
Fats Waller - (p)
Pops Foster -- (b)

Turn up the volume, pour yourself a glass of wine and sit back to hear about 15minutes of great music.
