Welcome to Bill Bruford's official Myspace site. Bill's remarkable journey in music began in 1968 and finally came to a conclusion in 2009 when Bill announced his retirement from public playing.

A legend in rock music for his work with Yes and King Crimson and many more, his talents as a jazz musician and composer have been applauded through his work with great players such as Michiel Borstlap, Ralph Towner, Tim Garland, Chris Botti, Django Bates, Iain Ballamy and his Earthworks group in all its incarnations. No matter what style or genre he works in Bill's playing remains adventurous, ambitious and accessible.

Summerfold New Release

Skin and Wire: Pianocircus featuring Bill Bruford play the music of Colin Riley…in which a composer supervises a jazz drummer who used to be a rock drummer playing with a group of classical pianists best known for performing systems music. Skin and Wire blends electronica, jazz and the avant-garde into a set of high-energy and ambient tracks. Designed to harness the remarkable power and range of the performers, Colin Riley’s music is quite unlike anything you’ve ever heard before. Available now at

40 years after he started, Bill's extensive career is celebrated in 2009 with two new releases. For those who are unfamiliar with Bill’s work, the Summerfold and Winterfold Collections act well as both over-view and introduction. Both albums testify to a lifetime’s work of unusual freshness and vigour from one of the world’s best known drummers, and come with extensive booklets and liner notes.

The Winterfold Collection 1978 - 1986 takes thirteen of the best tracks from across six Winterfold albums. Featuring Allan Holdsworth (guitar) and Jeff Berlin (bass), key tracks are Back to the Beginning, Sample and Hold, and with Patrick Moraz, Blue Brains.

The Summerfold Collection 1986 - 2008 is a generous double CD with more than two hours of music from 1987 to the present, featuring a stellar cast with, among others, Tim Garland, Ralph Towner, Django Bates, Eddie Gomez, and Iain Ballamy. Twenty-two of the best tracks are taken from from twelve Summerfold albums. Key cuts here are The Sound of Surprise (previously only released in Japan), a scorching acoustic version of Beelzebub, and the Earthworks Underground Orchestra Big Band version of the exciting Footloose and Fancy Free.
