Big Blind

Big Blind is a young, rockin’ (rhythm ‘n) blues band from beach resort Noordwijk in The Netherlands, founded in fall 2006. Initially influenced by acts like Howlin’ Wolf, the Vaughan Brothers, Red Devils, The Hoax, and labelmates Cuban Heels, they soon developed their own exciting style, using elements from various roots genres.



These young guns managed to get a record deal with Cool Buzz, home of alternative roots and blues, within their first year of existence, and released their debut album “Dressed To Win”, consisting of originals only in November 2007. It got raving reviews in all relevant Benelux music magazines and many dailies. Most of them also did articles on the band.



Within a few months, the gig list was as impressive, as if they’d been around for years. Confirmations from major festivals like Bluesrock Tegelen, Ribs&Blues and even the Belgian Rhythm & Blues Festival in Peer (one of Europe’s biggest blues festivals) amongst them.

Early 2008 Big Blind performed live at Radio 3, one of Holland’s major national radio stations, appealing to a young audience. Very rare for a blues act. June 2008 saw the band performing at the Linton Music Festival in the UK on invitation, as the organizers were blown away by one of their festival performances!



In spring 2009 Big Blind made their first national TV appearance in one of Holland’s most popular TV shows “Raymann Is Laat”. Their second album “Circus Left Town”, released end of May 2009 shows an adventurous band that has matured a great deal, and offers a variety of roots styles. July 2009 Big Blind performs at the prestigious Breminale festival in Germany.

Bestonden hun voorbeelden aanvankelijk uit acts als Howlin’ Wolf, Lester Butler, de Vaughan Brothers, The Hoax en labelgenoten Cuban Heels, ontwikkelden zij al snel een eigen en opwindende stijl met elementen uit diverse roots genres.



In maart 2007 nam Big Blind de eerste demo/EP op met Remko Schouten in de Yland studio, zo’n beetje de thuishaven van het gerenommeerde Cool Buzz label. Die EP wist de interesse te wekken van ‘t label, dat albums uitbracht van o.a. Drippin’ Honey, T-99, The Strikes en eerder genoemde Cuban Heels.



In november 2007 werd het debuut “Dressed To Win” uitgebracht. Het album kreeg zeer veel en vooral bijzonder positieve media aandacht. Alle relevante muziektijdschriften in de Benelux besteden aandacht aan de band middels recensies en de meeste deden ook interviews. Aan het eind van het jaar dook het album dan ook in diverse eindejaarslijstjes op. In januari 2008 speelde Big Blind bij “3voor12 Radio Live” op Radio 3, een unicum voor een bluesband.



Al deze positieve aandacht zorgde ervoor dat de agenda zich snel vulde en binnen een half jaar na release van hun debuutalbum werd Big Blind al bevestigd voor optredens op festivals als Ribs & Blues, Bluesrock Tegelen en het gerenommeerde Belgian Rhythm & Blues Festival. Daarnaast werd de band uitgenodigd om in mei 2008 de legendarische Johnny Winter te supporten. Een maand later stond de groep alweer op uitnodiging op het Linton Music Festival (UK), waar ze tot de hoogtepunten behoorden. De organisatie ruimde speciaal voor hen een extra plek in omdat men zeer onder de indruk was geweest van hun optreden op Kwadendamme Blues!



Voorjaar 2009 volgde dan nog het nationale TV debuut bij “Raymann Is Laat”, waar meteen de release van het tweede album “Circus Left Town” werd aangekondigd. Deze opvolger van het succesvolle debuut verschijnt in mei 2009 en betekent alweer een flinke stap voorwaarts en toont aan dat de band zich van veelbelovend tot een volwassen band heeft ontwikkeld, die het avontuur niet uit de weg gaat. In juli 2009 speelt Big Blind op het vermaarde Breminale festival in Duitsland!
