On August 11th, 1985 Ta' Shun (Tao Piccasso) Lewis was born at Etobicoke General Hospital. Only a short eight years later he began to discover his unknown talents and passion for music: “Hip Hop is a way of life” says Picasso. He was first introduced to the Hip Hop scene at the early age of eight. While he listened to old dancehall records in his grandfather’s garage in Connecticut an interested was sparked in free-styling over them. Later, at the age of eleven, Tao began developing his skills by rapping over the beats of artists such as Lost Boys, Notorious B.I.G. and other artists from that era of hip hop. Close friends and family members were convinced his new found talent would take him places. However, it was not until he started to battle other artists that he understood how talented he really was. Then, from the unpredictable streets of Rexdale a star emerged and regardless of the long way ahead, his strong mentality would take him to new heights on his road to success. Influenced by his years residing in Hartford Connecticut with his father Richard Lewis and growing up in Rexdale Ontario with his mother Yvonne, Tao Piccasso came across some challenging times. At the young age of fourteen he received his first criminal charge of Grand Theft Auto. However, that was the least of his offences as he was later charged with; assault, possession of a firearms and weapons dangerous. Nonetheless, that was the least of young Piccasso’s worries as a year later he became a father to new born Ta Lissa. Later that year, after dropping out of Monsieur Percy Johnson high school at the age of fifteen, the young artist’s life began to take a turn for the worse. His fixations with the street life led him to a three month sentence for trafficking crack-cocaine. At seventeen he had another daughter, Ta Jah and was living independently with his girlfriend and two children. These experiences were only some of the events in his life that shaped the young Tao Piccasso into the artist he stands firmly as today. Despite any setbacks, nothing could stop him from making music. He used what would put most artists at a disadvantage and turned it into motivation. His life experiences became his fuel for writing, his hardships became influential to his style and persona and his children became his inspiration for success. As a result he was able to release such tracks as “Jail Story” and “Magic” reflecting the legitimacy of his reality. Talented and Original, Tao’s tracks always ensured meaning, reason and truth. What took most artists a period of time to develop their skills was not the case for young Piccasso, as he was naturally talented from the moment he spit his first verse. It was only a matter of time before he began to accomplish big things. Becoming a successful artist was only the first step for Tao Piccasso. Looking back to his influences, artists such as; Busta Rhymes, Dame Dash, Tupac, Jay- Z, Russel Simmons, Gene Simmons, Master P, and Sean P. Diddy Combs impacted Piccasso greatly. He admired their success and the way they structured their businesses. It was these individuals that inspired him to never limit himself to being just an artist and instilled work ethic as well as ideas for his own business. The concept of a company originally known as Blue Family then changed to B.Familia and now formally known as B.Familion Enterprises came into effect when Piccasso was just thirteen years of age. He was blessed with the ability to create a reality with his dreams of accomplishments. What was once a mere idea, initially beginning with 2 members (Tao Piccasso's Childhood friends known as "Dawg" and "Matrix" ) has now expanded to over 25 members and recognition throughout the GTA. “Life ain’t Life without family and millions.” This well known slogan is the means by which Tao Piccasso lives and is the basis that B.Familion Enterprises is built upon. Undertaking the title of C.E.O for B.Familion was just the beginning. He started to promote his company and partnerships with others. Over a period of time the young entrepreneur affiliated himself with companies such as: Killa Connection Empires, The Cake up Team, True Family Records, F.A.M. T.V, I Respect Music etc. With his new title of C.E.O the list of entitlements were what seemed to be endless; Father, President, Artist, Director, Founder, Song writer, Clothing designer, Promoter, Executive Producer, Actor, Director of sales etc. “I’m a 23 year old entrepreneur that's all about making progress, being wealthy not rich and my family and money cause what’s life without it? NOTHING!” he says. With a company, new positions and responsibilities under his belt, young Piccasso single handedly claimed the reputation of the hardest working individual in the GTA. As an artist one of Piccasso’s greatest skills is his versatility which enables him to create tracks that embrace a rhythm and soul sound. The track, “Is This Music?” is one of many that contain the rhythm and soul twist. Collaborations with up and coming artist Linkx, also from Rexdale, has helped Tao Piccasso to understand that he does not have to limit himself to just one sound. “Never limit your self” was the words of the young artist. He is a man of many skills and with dedication to every aspect of his life whether it be business, music or family it is evident that anything Piccasso strives to do, he does. His past has taught him many things that will aid in the greatness of his future. His character and mentality has led him to success as his mix tape “The Blur Part One” dropped last April and not only met quota but opened doors for the young artist. With upcoming projects such as The Blur Part Two, Me vs. Them and Mega City Monster, the GTA anticipates even greater things from Piccasso, as his consistency is what he is respected for. Maintaining to be on point and persistent Tao has absolutely no thoughts of stopping by any means “Get money, Fam first, & don’t stop. With a mix tape dropped, various titles claimed, another two children, new ideas and projects in the making Piccasso still believes there is a lot more to accomplish. Nothing short of greatness is what is expected of him. He challenges not only himself but those around him to do the same; “Get your cake up like my team do” (Tao Piccasso).
