"Benita Washington…commands Gospel.a gift to her genre." -RHAPSODY
Benita Washington is one of the finest contemporary gospel singers to emerge in recent years, bursting onto the scene in 2003 when crowned the inaugural winner of the Gospel Dream Competition, which aired on Black Entertainment Television.
Benita Washington's 2004 debut release, "Hold On" hit multiple slots on the Billboard charts in its first week including number six on Top Gospel Albums, received a Soul Train Lady of Soul nomination for Best Gospel Album, and the lead single, "Thank You" reached number three on the gospel radio charts; remaining there three consecutive weeks. As a background vocalist for Anointed, Juanita Bynum and CeCe Winans, Benita broke through as a featured artist on Winans' national tour.
In 2007, Benita followed up with her critically acclaimed sophomore project, "Renaissance: Live in Nashville". As co-writer of the majority of the album, Washington unveiled another layer of artistry, liberty and piety.
Benita Washington's highly anticipated third album, "The Word Remains" embodies Benita's a matured personal worship, persona and style of reverence. Even more than before, Benita Washington is a gospel powerhouse whose unique gift has a diverse elegance to it. With its artistically preeminent producers, Virgil Straford (Ricky Dillard & New Generation, Shekinah Glory, Phil Tarver, Vincent Tharpe & Kenosis) and Daniel Weatherspoon (Donald Lawrence, Fred Hammond, Carl Thomas, Karen Clark-Sheard), at the helm, the music on Washington's forthcoming album is an impressive mix ranging from electronic R&B/Soul, Nu Jazz, modern praise & worship, to songs with a traditional gospel feel. Washington is something of a novelty in the way she mixes pop sensibility with gospel fervor, exhortation, and a number of stylistic diversions in between them. A true labor of love, "The Word Remains" both, blesses and inspires its listener.
Benita Washington remains busy, making appearances across the nation. In addition to touring with her own ministry, Washington routinely pours into God's people as the Overseer of Music & Worship Arts at the 25, 000 membered Mount Zion Full Gospel Baptist Church in Nashville, TN. Striving to walk as a Proverb 31 woman, Washington is a devoted wife and mother of two who gleefully acknowledges that her most important ministry and greatest masterpieces are at home.
