Profile Generator

Singer/songwriter Bela is the alter-ego or stage-name of Icelandic visual artist. Bela started out as a guitarist, playing in various bands, with musical styles ranging from death-metal to electro in the Icelandic music scene.

Belas turn from band based music to the solo performer came about from being to busy with his visual art and finding that being in a band was to time consuming and often straining. He soon began recording his own songs at home and singing them himself (something he never did in the bands). These songs he recorded were kind off a nod off to the music he grew up listening to (before the teenage Metal obsession kicked in).

As a visual artist he has shown different places such as Glasgow, Finland, Amsterdam, New York and of course Iceland, both as a part of a group and solo.

His music and visual art are two very different things, and that is the main reason he soon took the name Bela for his music to further establish the separation of the two different forms of art.

Before moving to Glasgow in 2005 to pursue a career in Art and music Bela had only performed 2 times as a solo artist in Iceland, but the pacing has picked up and now he is a frequent guest in Glasgow bars and venues.

The Bela debut album, titled Hole and corner is out on the 19th of June in Scotland, through a young Glasgow based indie label, Say Dirty records, and a single from that album Ticket for a train is available worldwide through i-tunes from the 29th of May.

Hole and Corner was mostly recorded in Akureyri Iceland over a period of 1 and half year with the help of friends, former bandmates and also few veterans from the Icelandic music scene. With hand picked local musicians in Glasgow by Belas label, Hole and Corner was completed in Glasgow at Diving Bell studios before being mixed back in studio Geimsteinn Iceland.

"The album pairs his sensitive vocals with an elegantly mournful slide guitar. At times, his voice evokes John Mayer, while the sunny, spare guitar work on such songs as "Stones" is more reminiscent of Nick Drake."
