John Ro Myung was born on January 24th, 1967 in Chicago, Illinois. Soon he moved to N.Y. When he was five years old, John started playing violin, and to many's suprise, taking tae-kwon-do lessons.

When he became 15, he joined a band and begun to play bass. Soon he greatly improved. Myung and his highschool friend, John Petrucci decided to go to Berklee College of Music. They entered the college, and there they met drummer, Mike Portnoy. Also joining was Kevin Moore: another of Johns' high school friends, who played keyboards, and Chris Collins on vocals, they began the band "Majesty" They changed the band name tp "Dream Theater" when they started to get confused with another band.

In Feburary, 1998, John and Derek Sherinian (who was the keyboard player of Dream Theater at that time) started a side project. They called it "PLATYPUS." Vocals were Ty Tabor (Kings X), and Rod Morgenstain (Dixie Dregs, etc.) on drums.

Eventually, Derek left the band and the rest of members changed their name to "Jelly Jam" and started their career as a trio. In 2002, they released their first album called "The Jelly Jam".

Dream Theater also released their sixth studio album in the end of January called "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence" and started touring the world. In the summer of 2003, they performed in the progressive rock festival all over the U.S.A. with Queensrych as a co-headliner.

John himself went to Japan to perform his first bass clinic in Japan for a week, in the end of October, 2003. In the following month, Nov. 12th, the Dream Theater studio album "Train of Thought" had come out.

Now, having just finished Octavarium, Dream Theater have started yet another world tour.
