Backini began in 2004 with the release of first album 'Threads' (Lumenessence Recordings). The album was produced by Rob Quickenden using random old samples carefully nicked from charity shop records. This randomness led to a quirky, off-beat style with lots of humour and a slightly dark edge, especially when layered with fat beats, bass and synth sounds. A classic album was born and did not leave many peoples stereos for that entire summer.

Rob decided to form a band to perform his tunes live and started with guitarist Jeff Bruce-Hay (who had co-written a few tracks on 'Threads') and drummer Kristian Cockburn. The band has now developed in to a nine piece extravaganza featuring local legend JFB on decks, local dentist Flevans on bass, local beauties Dalia, Abby and Shona on vocals, Rob himself on keyboards and general scoundrel Jonny on sax, flute and vocals.

The band have been busy developing their live sound at prestigeous gigs around Europe (Glastonbury, Big Chill, Love Box Weekender, Clapham Grand, Graz, Austria and numerous other venues in Brighton and London). As well as this there have been multiple live sessions for radio (Blue Room - Radio 1, 6 Mix - BBC 6 Music, Abby Road Sessions - WorldSpace Sattelite Radio). -yes, thats the real Abby Road, studio 2!!!

February 2006 has seen the release of album number two entitled 'Re:creation' (Lumenessence Recordings). Whilst keeping the original sense of tongue-in-cheek sample madness, Rob has introduced a more live feel, utilising the musicians to great effect. There have also been some interesting vocal collaborations such as Droop Capone on 'Radio' (Droop raps with LA hip-hop outfit 'The Black Love Radiators').

This year looks like a busy one with more gigs throughout Europe and the UK, plus further releases from Re:creation.
