Awaken A Cappella is Southern California's oldest co-ed a cappella group. Made up of 16 singers from all over UCLA's campus, Awaken has performed at such events as UCLA Spring Sing, Dance Marathon, UCLA Alumni Awards, Relay for Life, Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, The West Coast A Cappella Showcase, The International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, The California A Cappella Festival, and Powell Library Concert Series, and recently took second place at Absolut A Cappella held at USC (not to mention the two individual awards for best arrangement for Book of Love, and for Best Percussionist for Asher), in addition to their own quarterly concerts and various events on campus and in the community. In 2009 Awaken opened for Ben Folds at the Palladium in Hollywood, and in 2008 was featured on Season 2, Episode 5 of the hit web show Dorm Life. Awaken has released five albums (two of which are recognized with awards from Varsity Vocals; Best of College A Cappella CD series), including their latest album, Life's a Beach! Awaken will be releasing their sixth album to be titled Awakenbake on April 9th, 2010!
