AVERY

One look at Avery and it's clear this energetic 18 year-old is out to make a bold statement. As a California native, he's a part of the NorCal and SoCal skate scene, even competing in CASL (California Amateur Skate Board League) and the Vans Warped Tour at the age of 11. It was around this same time that Avery began writing songs, and taught himself to produce tracks using garage band on his apple computer. His word play is fresh & witty describing the life of a California teen. In an era where the majority of artists are all sounding, looking alike, and doing the same things, Avery stands out as one of a kind. At first glance most people can't believe he's a rapper, writer, & producer. However once he grabs the mic it apparent he has an old soul and a well rounded musical knowledge base. Avery's been studying music from an early age, taking Congolese drumming, Capoeira, and Afro-Haitian dance classes. He also participated in Leila Steinberg's Microphone Sessions. Leila, Tupac's first manager, would give out weekly writing assignments, expecting each student to return to the workshop using poetry, rap, song, dance, and theater to express themselves. The creative process inside the Mic Sessions allowed Avery to grow & develop as an artist. Avery graduated high school early & started taking classes at Musician's Institute in Hollywood where he enrolled in the Independent Artist Program. Recently Avery became a finalist in the West Coast Artist of the Year Competition sponsored by Interscope, Atlantic, Aftermath Records, Konvict Music, BET, & The Source Magazine beating out dozens of other California artists for this position. Each finalist will compete in November for the opportunity to be crowned "Artist of the Year" and be signed by the above mentioned record labels. Avery is definitely a force to be reckoned with. He's on the rise, keep your eyes focused.
