It all started back in the day of the Pharoes: the band that George and Thomas played in during the winter of 2001. As their first (and only) show approached, the bassist decided to quit so Tommy was brought in at the last minute to sit in (he and George had been playing their own songs in their rooms for close to two years). After the drummer called it quits the Pharoes were no more, but Thomas and George agreed that continuing to play would be a smart idea. John Deluca (drums) flew into Charleston's air force base with his father and landed a spot in "a new band" that was forming at Bishop England High School. Again, Tommy was asked to practice with the guys and the Air Force Jam Band was formed. Their title described where the band practiced and what type of music the band played. Soon the band changed both its practice space to George's house on the weekends and its name to Astral Projection. In the winter of 2002 John broke the news to the boys that he would be moving back to Illinois, and a first show date was set for December 6th. After John's departure and a memorable first show, AP began looking for a new drummer. Another show was booked for January, and Heath Richardson was asked to sit in on drums. It was at that show that Michael Hanf was in the audience who agreed to practice with AP in an attempt to fill the permanent role of drums. They kept him. Since Mike's entrance, AP has won two battle of the bands, played benefit concerts, and a New Year's eve show, trying to make the most of every musical experience by creative and experimental performances throughout the eastern Carolina coast. The guys do their best to provide their audiences with an unforgettable experience - the experience of Astral Projection.
