Fall of 2002. Five childhood friends begin a four year venture at a record store in East Los Angeles. Their band Ashbury plays their then unfamiliar dark sound to a crowd of 25 people.

Fast forward to 2006 and you’ll find yourself in a jampacked club called Spaceland in Silverlake California. The excitement in the air is more than evident as their now cultish following anticipates Ashbury’s now refined postpunk set. This inadvertently becomes their final show as personal conflicts, and unfortunate events in their personal lives take toll….

Ashbury graced Los Angeles from 2002 to 2006 with a then unique mix of dark post-punk energy and synthpop sensibility. They played nearly a hundred shows in that time span and built a cultish fanbase in the East Side of Los Angeles. As the media took notice of this feverish following, Ashbury found themselves sharing the stage with acts such as John Cale of The Velvet Underground, Ian Brown of The Stone Roses, The Walkmen, and VHS or Beta. They received accolades in the LA Weekly, LA Alternative, Music Connection, and Filter Magazine. They appeared locally on LATV. Ashbury was also interviewed on the BBC as part of a feature of the Los Angeles up and coming music scene. The five childhood friends were even featured on a film soundtrack with Radiohead.

Unfortunately internal turmoil, creative differences, and tragic events in their personal lives caused the group to disband before playing an official and much deserved “final” show. On April 4th 2008 Ashbury will take the stage one final time at The Echo as part of Club Underground. This show will be a final opportunity for fans and friends to share in the experience.
