Formed in 2007 the band comprises four mates who just wanted to write and perform their own songs, influenced by their home town, Salford, life and the people around them.
Their sound has been described as “Fast, furious, slightly punky, part-indie, difficult to pigeonhole but impossible to dislike.”
The band began rehearsing in a broken down shop, playing their first gig six months later at the Music Box, Manchester - they went down a storm and have been on a role ever since.
Shanty Town try to keep a raw energy on stage and aren’t satisfied til they've worked the crowd into a frenzy.
They played the official In the City, Fringe events in 2008, and in 2009 for SJM Concerts. Despite setting foot on stage on a Monday night, they were still picked up by Manchester Evening News reporter Katie Storey, describing them as:
“The highlight of In the City” and“One of the best unsigned bands to emerge from Manchester.”
In the last year, the band’s been busy writing new material and performing at venues such as Manchester Academy, Liverpool Carling Academy, The Roadhouse and many more throughout the UK; building their fan base and reputation for putting on a fantastic show.
They’ve supported artists such as Neville Staples, Reverend and the Makers, Twisted Wheel, The Beat, the Aeroplanes and more.
Much more could be written trying to describe Shanty Town, their music and what they’re about. But when you get down to it, Shanty Town are a band comprising four mates who are exceptionally talented, having a laugh and doing what they enjoy - playing their music live and giving the audience a great night.
