Biography

One of the most powerful and all in all impressive demos weve ever received, Artillery Hell comprises three tracks of masterful post-Pantera, post-Gothenburg, post-Cradle professionalism. One might call this death, but the sheer force of its groove and production, er, kills death dead.

-Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles, KnuckleTracks 90.

Artillery Hell was conceived in the late summer of the year 2003 by founding members Robert Anderson (vocals), Mike Knittel (guitars) and Andrew Bailey (drums). Shortly thereafter, the band began to obliterate the South San Francisco Bay Area with a number of highly successful shows alongside such bands as Death Machine, Zero Hour, Deeds of Flesh, Impaled, Imagika, and many others. Combining such extreme styles of music including thrash, death, and black metal, Artillery Hell was early on in their careers often compared to bands such as Morbid Angel, Cradle of Filth, and Slayer. As time progressed, however, a distinct style and sound began to emerge which allowed Artillery Hell to manifest its wide ranging and impressive repertoire.

The experience of the musicians is demonstrated in their five song demo (Death Perceptions) and the result is an explosion of relentless riffs and impeccable guitar soloing. The rhythm section brings the troops to their feet and moves to create chaos. The intricate dynamic range of the vocals makes this a must listen CD. This is certainly the first chapter of a great musical saga that will leave us with death metal in our veins!

-Transcending the Mundane.

In the year 2004, Artillery Hell took the next step in unleashing its extreme metal fury upon the masses by uniting with the overtly talented and world renowned producer Dino Alden, whose previous works include Marty Friedman, Zero Hour, Mordred, and a bevy of others. Entitled Death Perceptions, Artillery Hells first demo found extreme praise and adulation from both fans and reviewers alike. Death Perceptions was then featured in magazines and blogs worldwide, finding high acclaim from Heavy Oder Was (Germany), Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles (which featured the song, Humanity Wears a Burial Mask on its Knuckle Tracks compilation CD), Transcending the Mundane (in which Artillery Hell was the very first un-signed act to ever be interviewed), and Vampire Magazine (Canada).

The style of Artillery Hell on this three-track demo is a combination of a firing tank, screaming war victims and one hell of a fire inferno. Musically it is a combination of very heavy Bay Area thrash, some early Gothenburg influence and influence from bands like Pantera.

-Vampire Magazine.

After the release of Death Perceptions, Artillery Hell quickly returned to the stage and continued its metal assault upon Northern California by playing such prestigious shows such as The Thunder in the North (Oakland) and Tidal Wave (San Francisco) Festivals. In the summer of 2006, only one year after opening for the Tidal Wave Festival, Artillery Hell rocketed all the way up to the number one slot to headline it along with Bay Area favorites Mad at Sam. That same summer, the band also added a fourth member to its lineup, bassist Eric Tampier. Now armed with their second demo (Decay in Motion), produced once again by the incredible Dino Alden, Artillery Hell is ready to unleash its second official barrage of metal insanity upon its fans and the entire metal community. With an ever growing and maturing sound that now finds the band slipping into the world of progressive heavy metal while maintaining its original speed and aggression, Artillery Hell is more than ready to make its name known around the globe. Welcome to the future of American heavy metal, and welcome to Artillery Hell.
