The very early beginnings of ‘anxious me’, were on a little league baseball team that singer Mike Wirth and guitarist Jason Baum played on when they were kids - ironic now, that their music appears on a baseball video game! From there, the two split into various different groups/projects before finally coming together again in 2004. From this array of other bands came drummer Tony Ebster who Wirth had played with in ‘Dr. Evazon’. The final missing piece was bassist Chris Hinkley, who Baum met through a local elementary school musical production of Snow White: Baum was working the lights and sound, while Hinkley and his sister Kim were doing the music.

Through all these coincidences and friend of a friend acquaintances, the four formed and began hitting the Bay Area underground club circuit with a fresh blend of nineties’ spirit, and pop sensibility. Combining the crushing distorted guitars of their ‘hero bands’, with sweet and sometimes growling melodies, they found a following of fans and were soon able to climb out of the indie clubs to the more famous venues of Northern and Southern California.

Their debut album, ‘The Embarrassing Spotlight’, was produced by Willie Samuels (Cold Hot Crash, Poor Bailey, The Influents), over the course of two months in winter 2006. The final mastering touch was done by Ted Jensen (My Chemical Romance, Pearl Jam, Stevie Wonder). From the start, the album grew into a collection of songs with undeniable hooks, and songs about the bands goofy outlook on life. The sometimes satirical, sometimes heartfelt lyrics captured their fans and allowed anxious me to define what it means to be an underground-indie-band.
