“…Listen, uh uh, I can’t hear you very well. Do you suppose you can turn down the music down just a little? Oh, that’s much better… Yeah… huh… Yes… Fine, I can hear you now Dimitri… Clear and plain and coming through fine… I’m coming through fine, too, eh? …Good, then, as you say, we’re both coming through fine… Good…Well it’s good that you’re fine and… and I’m fine…I agree with you, it’s great to be fine…A-ha-ha-ha …Now then Dimitri, you know how we’ve always talked about the possibility of something going wrong with the bomb…”

~President Merkin Muffrey speaking to Premier Kissoff (Dr. Strangelove)

Indeed, it’s great to be fine. Antizario, known for their cutting-edge sound that blends acoustic instruments with modern technologies and effects, are rising quickly in the Canadian music scene.

After forming in 2003, Antizario spent years honing their sound and working on their debut album “It’s Great to be Fine,” which was released to critical acclaim in January 2007 and quickly topped charts. The record blasts through genre boundaries with ease and takes the listener on a sonic adventure with a mélange of drum n’ bass, modal jazz, hip-hop, afrobeat, electronica and ambient soundscapes.

Shortly after release, the album was in rotation on college radio and jazz stations across the country and the band was able to share the stage with many of Canada’s leading cutting-edge jazz acts such as Sekoya, Kobayashi and the Souljazz Orchestra.

With national radio exposure and increasingly dynamic live shows, Ropeadope Records came knocking on Antizario’s door in the summer of 2007. Without hesitation, the band signed on with the label that has backed Medski/Martin/Wood, Antibalas, DJ Logic, Charlie Hunter and a host of others. “It’s Great to be Fine” was re-released internationally in November 2007, significantly increasing the band’s profile both inside, and outside, of Canada.

Antizario is about to add another chapter to their story as they commence recording their second album in January 2008. The sessions will document the band in fine form after a series of live dates in the Fall, which will be followed-up by festivals dates in the summer of 2008.
