A New York City scene veteran known for his pumping sets, Velarde’s energy is fueled by the tribal rhythm in his blood. He was exposed to the New York clun scene in 1986 and was influenced by DJs such as The Latin Rascalls, Little Louie, and Tony Humphries.
In 1999, Velarde began promoting himself as a DJ and quickly started headlining across the New York City club circuit. He spin alongside Charles Feelfood, Armin Van Buuren, Steve Porter, Bad Boy Bill, Max Graham, Exacta, Scumfrog, Luis Diaz, Jason Jollins, and George Acosta. His other sets with the likes of techno gurus Ben Sims, John Selway, Tim Xavier, Dylan Drazen, Agent Orange, The Advent, and Brian Zenta are proof that progressive house and techno are part of what formed his current tech house flavor.
He held a 2-year residency in New Orleans from 2004 to 2006 followed by a 3-year residency in NYC that built the foundation of his signature sound. He has been booked especially for his technical and balanced skill transitioning genres and giving pure commitment to his work.
Velarde’s first signed release, “Skyla” with producer Mark Alson, was a success on Acute Records. It blew up on the dance floors and was being played by the likes of Nick Warren and Hernan Cattaneo. ”A Moment” featuring Carmela was released and was signed under Australia’s Wasted Youth Music. It was listed as top 3 on Pete Tong’s Radio One station in the UK with much acclaim by Erik Morillo and Jonathan Peters. A remix for “You’re My Only” featuring Nora Doncheva was next signed on to New York’s Double Frequency label. Velarde brings the tribal back into techo with the release of “You Lose” and “Afro-Asiatic” which was picked up by London’s Drum Central label and was released in 2008. Drum Central signed another double techno release “Ode 2 G” and “City of Angels” shortly thereafter. His smash hit remix was released on Wasted Youth Music entitled “Addicted” by The Camel Rider and Mark Alston. Marvelo Casteli from South American House next signed Velarde’s “Gotham Groove.” Aside form the dance music scene, he has completed commercial music projects a well as remixes for the fitness industry under UItra Records. Gotham City Records released “9000″ and “Mindinao” featuring Carlema is his newest track out on Star 69′s sublabel Duplex.
With multiple labels picking up his refined sound, Velarde is truly a producer with a versatile sensibility that translates to his deejay skills and his passion for music.
He’s currently making waves as a regular with the award winning party Dance.Here.Now at Club Cielo in NYC. He stays committed to his producton schedule in his NYC recording studio and launched RISE SESSIONS podcast available now on this website featuring his live and promotional sets.
