BIO:Angry Panda play loud, heavy and melodic alternative rock, shaped with a vision of making borderless, imaginative and widely expressive music – featuring intense recordings and explosive live performances – based in Bristol, UK. The band centres on the partnership of old school friends Lee Everson (Vocals, Bass) and Steve Nutt (Lead Guitar), and the line-up is completed by drummer Jack Everson.

Starting out in 2002, the band have gigged wherever they could across the UK live circuit, playing venues as diverse as The Liverpool Cavern Club in 2005, The Sheffield Boardwalk in 2007 and most recently in 2009 the Dublin Castle in Camden Town. Having cut their teeth with several self-recorded demos in the early years, the band released their first professional mix in 2008 entitled “Welcome To The Fuck”. This EP was well received by listeners and fans, and contributed to a growing Bristol fan base - gaining airplay on the BBC Radio Bristol’s Uncovered show. This release marked the definition of the band’s crunching and harmonic guitar sound, showing influences from revered alt-rock bands such as At-The-Drive-In, The Pixies and Fugazi.

Throughout 2009 the band has been continuing to regularly headline gigs on the Bristol circuit, with a few gigs in London. This year they have released a new 5-track EP, and were fortunate enough to win a prestigious day’s recording time at The Roundhouse studios in London, as part of the EMI 30/30 Competition.

The latest release from Angry Panda is entitled ‘Cut Loose’, described by the band as a “dangerous collision of shrieking guitars, thunderous bass and labyrinthine percussion” - ‘Cut Loose’ is a lyrical statement in primal rock music, veering from serene prog-rock soundscapes into furious punk-fuelled riffage. Angry Panda’s efforts have concentrated on further developing the band’s sound into a powerful mix of spiky livewire guitars, dominating bass and dense rhythmic expression. Combined with the piercing mantra of Lee Everson’s vocals, ranging from melodic sweeps to caustic screams – Angry Panda’s music is a hysterical lunge for the ears of the listener. This EP encapsulates the band’s lyrical themes of dark emotional truths, mixed with dissident thought and anti-establishment polemics.

‘Cut Loose’ is the latest release from a band whose creative output is a message of ideological resistance against the status quo, and this latest EP is a milestone in Angry Panda’s unflinching desire to express an acoustic originality through their music. With sharp production values courtesy of Matt Sampson at Bink Bonk Studios in Bristol, Angry Panda are sharpened and ready to firmly imprint themselves upon the consciousness of the underground UK rock scene.
