André Luis de Lima Poveda, also known by his friends as "Mac" (from "Mac
Gyver"), was born in 1967, on the 6th of March, in the city of Salvador,
state of Bahia, Brazil. He is from a family of musicians. He is the grandson
of a famous maestro, founder of the Orchestra Lira de Santo Amaro da
Purificação, in Bahia. His mother is a professor of music, graduated in
Musical Composition, Classic Piano and Ofeonic Singing, specialized in
Choral Regency.
Poveda began his musical life in 1977, when he won an acoustic guitar from
his parents. Later in 1984, he bought his first electric guitar: a "Tonante"
all modified by himself. He started playing songs of bands like Queen, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. In 1985 he began to play in garage bands, such as 'Pelotão Rock', and in 1986 he founded one of the greatest rock bands of the city at the time, Scarlet, with singer Sacha Gama (RIP). In 1993 he was invited to join another legend of Salvador Rock: the band 'Zona Abissal'
staying until its end in 1998.
After a long break between 1998 and 2004, exclusively dedicated to his
family, Poveda has returned to music. He joined the band 'Plexus' in 2004, 'Animus Necandi' in 2005
and Versus 3 in 2005/2007. 2009 - Lo Han. In 2007, he's been involved with the production and creation of the 'Waterfalls' project, being responsible for most of the instruments played and the arrangements of the songs. Poveda
started to publish his solo material in 2005.
In 1984, Poveda began to have guitar lessons at Ama, staying for about two years. In 1986 he started the Acoustic Guitar Course at Universidade Católica do Salvador (UcSal), where he studied for more two years classical guitar and musical theory. Right after that, Poveda decided to study by himself, relying on his mother own material. Recently, he attended an online course at IGT, in 2005. He admits he's hungry for knowledge and all new musical stuff.
When playing for Zona Abissal, Poveda was considered the 2nd best Heavy Metal guitarrist of Salvador. In the same period, the band also had his
drummer (Iassa), his bass player (Albertinho) recognized as of the best.
Poveda calls himself a 'movie addict'. One of his passions is "Star Trek", the TV Series. He also loves PC games and PS2. He loves traveling, specially to 'Chapada Diamantina', where he (as biologist - graduated at Universidade Federal da Bahia - UFBA) has developed many works and researches.
Poveda has three kids with his wife Eliana: Ana Paula (2003); Andréa (2005), and Alexandre (2006). They are, he states, the reason of his life.
