If last night a poet gave you her heart, that poet would be Amaris. She speaks with her heart in her tongue and forces it out with the truth she delivers. Amaris graduated from NC A&T SU with a B.S. in Architectural Engineering, but has chosen to pursue her passion, poetry. Described as small but powerful, she has won several slams but more importantly to her, she has touched many peoples lives. She has performed in forums sponsored by groups such as Not in Our Name, Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation Commission, The Peoples Institute for Survival and Beyond (Undoing Racism), Greensboro Public Library, October 22 Coalition Against Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation, M.O.V.E., Hip Hop Against Racist War, The Care and Share Foundation, African Women in Action, HIV/AIDS Awareness, and Artist Responsibility Movement to name a few. As a community activist, Amaris has been able to put action behind her words. Amaris uses her poetry to perform and educate students in middle and high schools as well as universities such as North Carolina A&T State University, University of North Carolina Greensboro, Guilford College, Old Dominion University, and Arizona State University. In addition to the aforementioned, Amaris performs at many youth groups, churches, mosques, bookstores and festivals. Amaris has opened shows for Toi Derricote, Jessica Care Moore, Floetry, Kanye West, Lil Brother, Ricanstruction and The Last Poets and was a featured poet on defpoetryjam.com. Her poetry speaks revolution to injustice, freedom of ones self, self- actualization, truth and love of humanity.

Amaris is currently working on a CD Release Tour to promote her new opus entitled Black and Blue is a poetically liberating self-healing journey through the African Diaspora colored with jazz, blues, reggae, gospel and hip hop.
