Grew up in the South Shore of Long Island and raised by my two parents. Coming from Italian, Spanish and Filipina descent always around different cultures inspired me to not stick with just one sound. I am influenced by many styles, R&B/Soul, Pop, Latin, Blues, Gospel, Hiphop, Jazz, Rock and Reggae. I've been singing and dancing since I was a child. I remember always listening to my mom playing James Brown and Michael Jackson and dancing in the living room wearing my "Michael Jackson" gloves and leg warmers. She also played Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, Earth, Wind And Fire and alot of Motown hits and my dad always playing Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Sting, The Eagles, Eric Clapton, James Taylor and Luther Vandross to name a few. That really made my taste for so many different styles grow at such a young age. My mom had me take piano lessons when i was 8yrs. old. and taking different kinds of dance classes such as ballet and hiphop classes. In middle school I also took part in the musical plays we put on such as "Bye Bye Birdie" and "Grease". I knew I couldn't let music go and by the time I graduated high school I decided to pursue music full time. I went on numerous singing and modeling auditions in NYC commuting on the LIRR back n forth from LI. I landed an editorial job with Seventeen Magazine and I also appeared in a music video for the r&b duo "ParkSlope" for the song "La Dee Da Dee". I also appeared on MTV's Global Grooves Dance Show for a season in the summer time. Some good and a handful of auditions shot down but that didn't stop me from believing in myself. At 19, I started a 4 female singing Pop group with a friend of mine, which we called"Sultry". We practiced singing and dancing alot and performed at places around Long Island and working with a couple of different producers.
I started training with vocal coach Badiene Magaziner for 1 year and then was referred to Craig Derry/Clurel Henderson by a great producer friend of mine, Jeremy Skaller of The Orange Factory. Celebrity vocal coach Craig Derry, has worked with some of the top selling artists today such as Etta James, Brenda K. Star, Michael Jackson, Marc Anthony, John Legend, D' Angelo, Lil Mo, SWV and Mario Wynans to name a few. Craig's class is a group class which helped me blossom from a shy girl to a more confident artist and his vocal aerobic techniques helped build my range and strength. Craig helped boost confidence in myself which was something very important to me. My voice is growing more and more each day and Im doing things now that I'd never thought I'd be able to 5 yrs. ago!
I am currently working on developing my craft as a songwriter and artist and continuing to work on my project. I will be featured on a song that I co-wrote with another talented songwriter Dahlia, called "Work It", on an indie album that will be coming out on itunes Nov.11th, 2008, called Malek Life in 3D. I am also represented by a very well known and respected Commercial Modeling and talent Agency in NYC called Gilla Roos.
In the future I am looking to work in all aspects of music including songwriting for Major Artists, getting songs placed in Major Motion Picture Soundtracks and Commercials, recording my album and performing while exploring other opportunities in both acting and modeling. I continue to work hard, stay focused, driven and dedicated to my love for music and entertainment. You just have to believe in yourself, vision it and great things will happen. I'm looking to make a difference and inspire people all around the world.
