Denver rock trio all capitals' new EP "The Time is Now" makes audiences pump their fists in the air with nostalgic punk abandon while shouting along to pop-choraled vocal layers. Listening to all capitals feels as much like musical rebellion as it does guilty pleasure.
Members Paul Christus (Vocals, Guitar), Tony Corona (Drums), and Jim Beasley (Bass) offer a variety of influences ranging from the Pixies and Bad Brains to Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich. This cross-section reminds listeners of what rock is supposed to be: Fun.
With "The Time is Now"—released in October 2011—all capitals packed out both their listening party at Lost Lake and CD release show at the Hi Dive. all capitals' dedication to their music over years of interesting drama easily explains fans' dedication to them.
Since the existence of Broken Down Autos (Paul and Tony's indie-pop project prior to all capitals with Jim Beasley), these musicians played through any trial handed to them, even if it meant Tony was slapping his own legs at Paul's audition because he didn't have a drum kit. Somehow, all capitals also survived three flooded practice spaces and a stolen van that members hunted down on their own, with help from the DPD and a new bassist. After laying Broken Down Autos to rest, Tony and Paul snagged Jim Beasley from The Epilogues—and Beasley fit perfectly as bassist for all capitals.
Considering each member's dynamic musical background, all capitals sound remains unpredictable: "This is one act that plays like it doesn't have time to waste." (Tom Murphy, Westword; Access full article at http://www.westword.com/2011-10-20/music/all-capitals-hi-dive/)
Paul's Julliard-inspired childhood (his pianist mother attended the prestigious school) is only the tip of the iceberg to explain all capitals' professionalism and dedication. Tony Corona studied music performance and obtained his degree in audio engineering, proving a huge asset in all steps of the recording process for "The Time is Now." With equally impressive proficiency, Jim Beasley has played bass for 20 years and studied under renowned Denver jazz fixture and music professor Dave Solzberg.
all capitals culminate professional musicianship and drive with hooky, dirty punk rock energy that can't be ignored.
