Though many will try, it’s difficult to pigeon-hole Alison as a vocalist and performer. Many will know her for her power-house vocal on I JUST WANNA DANCE. Alison trained at The Queensland Conservatorium of Music, majoring in voice and piano. Although Alison valued her classical training, she adored musicianship workshops and chose to spend more time “hanging” with the jazz ensemble and youth choir than attending Opera. Alison is more than a singer. She’s a musician with a love and respect for many genres of music.
From singing Bond classics to Ella Fitzgerald, Alison has worked with numerous orchestras including The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra & The BBC Concert Orchestra. An accomplished cabaret performer, Alison has travelled the world presenting her various one woman shows in New York, West Virginia, Sydney and throughout the UK & Europe. Alison was flown to New York to be guest soloist for composer David Friedman at the ASCAP Concert for Contemporary Composers at the N.Y. Cabaret Convention. Her solo CDs “Simply Alison Jiear” and “Forgiveness’ Embrace” were both released to overwhelming reviews and are available on iTunes. Described by The Evening Standard as “a one woman Wall of Sound”, Alison is due to release her third CD “Live at Pizza on the Park” in the spring of 2011.
Theatre: Alison was one of 4 vocalists chosen for Richard Thomas’ SHOES at Sadlers Wells Theatre in September 2010, a show that demanded great versatility from its artists. Alison created the role of Shawntel for the RNT production of JERRY SPRINGER THE OPERA for which she received an Olivier Award 2004 nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. Other West End credits include the role of Dolores Dolores / Diana Dream / Dixie Chick in On The Town ( English National Opera), SMOKEY JOES CAFÉ (Prince of Wales), Pitti-Sing in THE HOT MIKADO (Queens), Jan in GREASE (Dominion), THE FABULOUS SINGLETTES (Piccadilly, Comedy & Duke of Yorks), Mrs. Austin in PRISONER CELL BLOCK H: THE MUSICAL (Queens), Ida in HONK: THE UGLY DUCKLING (Watermill), Mary Bland in EATING RAOUL (Bridewell), Mabel Washington in FAME (Oslo Spektrum & Swedish Tour), BLACK GOES WITH EVERYTHING (Churchill Theatre, Bromley), Tina in INNER CITY (Cockpit), Ilse von Hesse in NINE (Original Australian Cast) & THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE (Victoria State Opera).
Solo film credits include Being Julia, The Corpse Bride, Lion King III & Cody Banks III. She also sang on film soundtracks to Nine, Shrek II, Evita, Die Another Day, Star Wars Episode 1, Tomb Raider, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory & has provided character voices for Nickelodeon Junior & Spitting Image animations.
