Biography



Born and raised in Queensland Australia, Alex began the path of music at the age of 6 taking up the jazz piano. It was 5 years later where he found his first taste in electronic music at the young age of 11. He began with the discovery of techno pioneer Jeff Mills with his album The Other Day. It was on that day that Alex knew the sound of techno was for him. From then on every weekend, Alex would sit up late in the early hours of the morning taping on cassette Live DJ Sets and mashups he would hear on the radio.



4 years later with many hours of hours of work, a thousand dollars proudly earned and saved, the day of the birth of his very own set of turntables had arrived. Patiently teaching himself the techniques and tips of DJing, It was then one year later he made his first debut appearance, at just 15.



It was at this stage that Alex knew he didn’t just want to mix his favourite artists and tracks. He wanted to create the beautiful sounds himself. This was the start of his long path to production. He firstly started out creating Jazz infused electronica resembling artists such as St Germain and later progressing to the funkier house sound similar to the likes of Pnau’s ‘Sambanova’. He then began to experiment with a large quantity of genres including Detroit techno, Jackin house, and many more.



Years went by and sure enough Alex began to be recognized for his exclusive sound. In 2007 he was picked up by World Renown French based New Wave/Electro Club label Boxon Records, and from this had completed a European Tour for Boxon Records alongside Tom Deluxx [Boxon Rec./Just a Band], Julien Milan [Boxon Rec.]& Julien Minet [Owner-Boxon Rec.] in the months of January- February 2008 consisting of Germany, France and Spain.



25 Hours a Day. 8 Days a week. Alex lives and breathes music. He Currently is Studying full time at The Qld Conservatorium of Music : Griffith University in the fields of Sound Engineering, Popular Music, Music Tech, and Sound Design.



When he’s not at university, he is in his studio always discovering new sounds and techniques to deliver such a distinctive story that of music.



But wait. If that’s not enough, Alex also managers to own and operate his very own world known successful label Dektek Records® specializing in the fields of Techno, Minimal and Tech House.



His label -



Alex Ward is the founder of World Known, Australian based electronic label, Dektek Records® . Stretching over a wide range of styles majoring in Techno, Minimal, and Tech House, Dektek Records® was created to provide and introduce the Electronic dance scene with fresh new experimental sounds. Today the label has over 10 artists signed, and with recent artists based all over sections of France, Spain, Germany and Holland, Dektek Records® is now selling releases to over 150 stores worldwide.
