RTSI, Rete Due - (Radio-TV) - Switzerland - December 2006

‘[….] Alessandro Carabelli is a refined pianist and composer, able to proportion technical skill and lyricism. [….]. Carabelli’s music is harmonious and creates fantastic rhythm and atmosphere, fighting spirit and simplicity; the themes flow naturally, and their musicality is wonderful [….] Alessandro Carabelli’s group sounds like an experienced ensemble, especially thanks to Luciano Zadro’s guitar, Diego Mascherpa’s and Franco Ambrosetti’s precision, and Alessandro Carabelli’s lyricism: the result is an uncommonly pleasant CD [….] Alessandro Carabelli is one of the most interesting representatives of contemporary jazz.”

All About Jazz - Usa - November 2006

The group led by pianist Alessandro Carabelli confirms being an excellent modern jazz ensemble, that we already appreciated in their previous album, “Over and out”; here, in addition, the presence of Swiss trumpeter Franco Ambrosetti stands out in few tracks.

The band keeps the same natural, though fresh and sincere musical style, through songs mostly composed by Carabelli; the tracks are highly dynamic, versatile but never banal, and a bit of a “Jarrett-style” atmosphere animates tracks drawing inspiration from our tradition, in which each component can amply express his skills as a soloist. The pianist draws beautiful lines with an elegant and sophisticated touch (…) Fusion 3 Distr. - Montréal, Canada - October 2006

Aphrodite is full of moonlight – and squarely lit by the sun. For one thing, the six innovative and engaging Italian musicians create an airy, open feel; for another, the material, all original is light and lyrical. The 11 tracks are through and through relaxing and thoughtful and full of genial energy. Expect nothing less than consistently delicious music, expertly played.Jazzitalia - Italy - January 2007

[….] (Alessandro Carabelli) is among the few artists whose music I recommend although you are not familiar with jazz music at all. I do not mean his music is not real jazz. What I mean is that his music [….] generates a totally free form of expression. According to most, this liberty is actually the true essence of jazz. If we focus our attention on the piano style, we can find obvious references to Bach, to Bill Evans, to Corea and to Camilo. And it is not because of a lack of originality, but because of the extent of his music culture.Japan MR - Japan - January 2007 Aphrodite seems like a dim nocturnal image in a Spike Lee movie (.) embellished by an absolutely outstanding trumpet piece. This second CD by Alessandro Carabelli escapes any label or genre. The composition and the performance are elaborate, but the music becomes easy and immediate when you listen to it, whether or not you are inured to this kind of sound.
