Andrea Dulbecco and Luca Gusella’s Aisha Duo brings a warmth of sound and purpose that take the vibraphone and marimba into an exciting new sonic territory of intimate lyricism.

Italians Dulbecco and Gusella form an eclectic marimba and vibraphone duo with a distinctive, intimate sound. Their debut album Quiet Songs (OS 502) features a transcription of eight of the "Children Songs" by Chick Corea, a selection of their own works and other compositions. The project was recorded in a 17th Century Church in Italy and also features frame drums master Glen Velez and extraordinary Italian cellist Marco Decimo.

The duo grew out of meeting in Franco Campioni’s percussion class at the Conservatory of Milan. Encouraged by his father and exposed to jazz music from an early age, Andrea began his career as a child playing drums over Count Basie recordings. Luca cites the premature death of his friend Beppe Sciuto, an incredibly talented percussionist with whom he collaborated, as the inspiration for creating Aisha Duo. The duo was founded on a wealth of musical affinities and reinforced by the desire to play contemporary music in between improvisation and composition.

The music of Aisha Duo is inspired by a diverse array of artists including David Friedman, and the Gary Burton/Chick Corea duo. In addition to featured compositions from Corea, Quiet Songsrepertoire includes Ralph Towner’s "Beneath an Evening Sky," which was previously released as a live version by Aisha Duo on the ObliqSound Sampler (OS 001) in 2001.

Since 2007, Aisha Duo has reached listeners the world over, after two tracks from Quiet Songs ("Amanda" and "Despertar") were selected for inclusion with Microsoft Vista’s Windows Media Player. A new album featuring the duo paired with a chamber choir is in the works for future release on ObliqSound.
