Adrift Da Belle (Driftee) is a Jersey bred, Atlanta based Hip Hop artist, enthusiast, and purist.
Her music embodies the evolution of the B Girl. She delivers gritty, realistic word play from an urban woman's perspective.
Born in Savannah, Ga Mom and Driftee (her nickname) moved to Brooklyn, NY. Mom's hopes were to provide both her and her daughter with the opportunities and cultural diversity not readily available in Savannah, Ga. Once in Brooklyn, the realities of inner city living set in and Mom moved the family to Driftee's beloved New Jersey.
Adrift became fascinated with music at a young age and dreamt of becoming a Hip Hop star. She began writing poetry in jr. High School and occasionally wrote a song. Adrift recorded her first Hip Hop song (The Roti Song) on a friend's karaoke machine. She went on to win poetry contests, artist competitions and became her family and high school's resident poet. Adrift's Hip Hop dreams were dormant until college when she was asked to freestyle for a popular campus DJ. That freestyle created a buzz on campus , Driftee became known as the chick from Jersey that could rap.
With one goal in mind, realizing her dream as a hip hop star, Adrift left school and returned to Jersey. Within a year of her return home, Driftee recorded her first demo Grown Lady Antics which enjoyed local success and earned her performance opportunities at block parties and talent showcases throughout New Jersey, Philadelphia and Baltimore. She became somewhat of a hood celebrity as her music was put in rotation at local go go bars, and watering holes.
Adrift quickly noticed that the only way into the game was to get out of the comfort zone that New Jersey provided. In 2005, Adrift packed her car and moved to ATL. Since her arrival, this ATL transplant has been busy. Adrift became a mainstay at popular the Apache Cafe's Free Forum Exchange (know for launching the careers of many indie artist), and released her first LP, Da Threat , in 2006.
Her diligence on the open mic scene did not go unnoticed. Also in 2006, Adrift was hand picked by Organized Noize's Ray Murray to be the only female member of the legendary Dungeon Family's second generation collective - Dungeoneze. Under Ray Murray's tutelage, Driftee is realizing her potential as a songwriter. Adrift wrote and arranged the two R&B songs, "Higher" and "Better", on her sophomore LP, Garden State Parkway .
Adrift's 2007-2009 Atlanta performance resume reads like a wish list for indie artist. Adrift has graced countless stages at countless venues such as Center-stage, The Bench, The Royal Peacock, Drunken Unicorn, Relapse Theater, MJQ Main Concourse, The ATL Icehouse, 529, Eastside Lounge, A3C '09/10, etc.
In 2009 Adrift landed a supporting role in the indie film Pathways [Sean's Lament]. In 2010 she released her second LP, Garden State Parkway, to critical acclaim. Garden State Parkway features production from Organized Noize, DRUGS, and Benny Demus (Akon's DJ) amongst others. "Dun-Ez" (from Garden State Parkway, LP) was featured on the score and soundtrack of the MTV Original Movie: "My Super Psycho Sweet Sixteen". Adrift's underground hit "Can U Feel It" (also from Garden State Parkway, LP) has proven infectious to the national underground Hip Hop scene since her performance of the hit while opening for Rakim at the October 2009 Atlanta based A3C Festival.
Adrift is currently completing her much anticipated EP, #DNA (DRUGS n ADRIFT), which will feature exclusive production by DRUGS. #DNA is scheduled for release in the Summer of 2011.
