Leesa Marie - Biography song-writer Leesa Marie , was born in Montreal, Canada. Singing, dancing and writing have always been a big part of her life. Leesa Marie moved to Toronto in 1980`s. When she was small, she recalls being influenced by hip hop culture, by teenagers from NYC doing break dancing and freestyle on the playground outside her building. Those dance moves rubbed off on her, and have had a large impact on the energy she exudes at her live shows. Moving back to Montreal in the late 80's, she attended catholic school and joined the school choir, discovering and developing her voice and range. As a teenager Leesa Marie started writing songs on her acoustic guitar, and soon began working with other local artists in the West Island / Pointe Claire to put together a band. While music is her first love, she is also a very versatile performer. She is an Actra member, who has studied acting at the Montreal School of Performing Arts and in 2004 attended the "Acadimie International Edith Serei" where she received a degree in makeup artistry psychofigurism. While primarily a singer songwriter, she is very active in the local film making community. Recently, Leesa has worked with a number of local stars, including a guest appearance in the Butta Babees video "Understand Yourself", and with the group on Zed TV (CBC). She has also worked with Montreal born, Toronto based Black Pearl at North by North East, recorded and toured with Vancouver rapper Franchise as well as performing with Groundwerks, in the Tellus World Ski & snowboard Festival - Whistler B.C 2005. One of many current projects, is Tamashi being the leader of her band, made up of local 514 Talent such Tone Botelho and Mike Rien and at times, also backs up juno nominated Kali from Kali & Dub and currently is backing up Jah cutta & Determination for there Wha Gwan 2007 Canaidian tour. The music of Tamashi AKA Leesa Marie reflects her influences; from Portishead, Erykha Badu and Mary J. Blige to Bob Marley, Jimmy Hendrix and Nirvana. She has recently finished her 2007 album called Tamashi Connect , which is on sale at Purtracks.com also Itunes and in July 2007 will be sold nationwide in HMV. Montreal's newest musical sensation, Tamashi, brings a diverse mix of styles and culture to the stage with an uplifting mix of R&B, Hip hop, Funk, Soul, Ska, Dub & Reggae. Lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Leesa-Marie , known also for her work with the(Butta Babees, Groundwerks, Kali & Dub) mesmerizes audiences with her soulful voice and boundless energy. She is backed up by an all-star group of musicians and songwriters: bassist Tone Botelho (Special Ops, Orgypop, Black Rams), guitarist Kali (Kali & Dub, Groundwerks, Hardsteppers) and drummer Michael Rien (Schmelvis, The Hora Boys). Currently placed in the semi-finals at the Emergenza world band competition, Tamashis poised to rocket on to the international stage. The groups broad base of styles and talents appeal to fans from all walks of life. With a demo EP already out, Tamashis working @ Bent Building Productions with engineer Tim Doyle he recorded & mixed a full-length album, guaranteed not to disappoint.
